HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HOLDS GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING

The First Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Third Assembly of the Ho West District has been held on Friday 28th April, 2023 at the District Assembly Hall.

The Presiding Member, Hon. Rita Semanu Eglegbe in her opening remarks welcomed members to the meeting. She stated that, the meeting is in fulfilment of the standing orders of the District Assembly.

Hon. Eglegbe reminded members on the upcoming elections of Assembly Members and advice all to be mindful of what they say or do. She added that Assembly Members that will not contest again must continue whatever roles they have been playing towards the development agenda of their electoral areas.

She urged all members to contribute to the deliberations as specified in the agenda of the meeting.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Ernest Victor Apau presented his sessional address and Executive Committee Report to the house. His address touched on some developments in the the District in areas such as Agriculture, Infrastructure Development, Supply of Water, Streetlight Rehabilitation/Installation, Cattle Ranching, Health, Education, Environment and Sanitation, among others.

On Infrastructure Development the District Chief Executive indicated that the Assembly supervised and monitored the completion of projects including construction of Reservoir for Fire Station at Dzolokpuita, Construction of 1 No. 2Unit Bedroom Apartments for Heads of Decentralised Departments at Dzolokpuita, Renovation of Maternity Ward at Kpedze, Construction of Canteen for Decentralised Department at Dzolokpuita and Construction of 1No. CHPs Compound at Biakpa. Also, Saviefe-Gbedome feeder roads and Kpedze township access roads and others have been worked on.

He again stated that management is working to repackage and re-award all abrogated projects in the District including the Avenui CHPs Compound, Tsito Area Council and Abutia Area Council.

Touching on Cattle Ranching, the DCE noted that the menace of cattle ranching leading to the influx of herdsmen’s all over the District has become a security threat to DISEC. He retreated Hon. Assembly Members to engage land owners to refrain from allocating same land given to crop farmers to the cattle owners to avoid fighting between the crop farmers and the herdsmen.

With Streetlight Rehabilitation/Installation, the DCE disclosed that, the Assembly received 200 streetlights which were distributed to electoral areas and some Senior High Secondary Schools as part of improving security in the District. He added that several streetlights were also rehabilitated within the District.

On issues of Health, Hon. Apau said the Assembly has completed the renovation of the Maternity Ward at Kpedze Poly Clinic and handed over to the user department. He added that the Assembly in collaboration with Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation constructed CHPs compound at Biakpa with staff accommodation as well as provided equipment to the District Health Directorate, for onward submission to health facilities as part of their effort to improve health service delivery in the district. He also revealed that plans are far advanced in the construction of the District Hospital.

As Education is one of the priority of the Assembly, Hon. Apau revealed the ongoing construction of 2 No. 3-Unit Classroom Block at Dodome Dgblome and Abutia Teti which are been funded by GETFund. He said 100 desks were distributed last year and more will be supplied to reduce the shortfalls of furniture deficit in schools.

With regards to Agriculture, Hon. Apau highlighted on One-Electoral Area one Nursery, One Paramountcy One Stool Farm, distribution of seedlings, Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) and the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP).

The District Chief Executive inconclusion called on all stakeholders to come together to drive the development agenda of the district.

Some Town and Area Council Chairpersons presented their report for discussion by the house.
